Annie Leibovits
Annie Leibovits was born on October 2nd, 1949 in Waterbury, Connecticut. After she graduated from high school Annie Leibovits moved to the Philippines when her father was reposted. After a short time there she decided she didn't like it and moved to the Bay Area in Californie to be with her sister. While in California Leibovits went to the San Francisco Art Institute. She initially went there to study and get a degree in painting. During her years of schooling she started to second guess her choice in a career. She then decided that she wanted to switch her degree and look into photography. This is probably a smart move that she made, her photos made her famous. While starting off her career she worked as a staff photographer for the Rolling Stones. Impressed with her work they decided to make her the chief photographer and take her on there tour of the Americas in 1975. Leibovits ended up working with Rolling stone for 10 years, 1973-1983. By the time she was done working with them she had over 142 covers and published photos from the Rolling Stone magazines. But Leibovits wanted to do more. She decided to leave the Rolling Stones Magazine and go work for two other famous magazines, Vanity Fair and Vogue. She worked with both these magazines for 15 years, 1983-1998 were she worked on high advertising profile campaigns. With these magazines she fell in love with taking very iconic, quirky, and dramatic portraits of multiple celebrities. She used very bold colors, well lighted and crisp style. Her style was very unique and different from most photographers who did portraits. The way she took them made the people not only look but you could also feel the way they felt. Whether it is serious, happy, quirky, sad. Leibovits was very good at expressing emotion through her photos. With all the success that she's had, Leibovits has photographs all around the world in multiple museums and galleys. Some of the museums are National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C., the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C., The International Center of Photography in New York, The Brooklyn Museum, The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, The Maison Europeenna de le Photographie in Paris, The National Portrait Gallery in London, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the San Jose Museum of art, and many many more. Not only does she have photographs all around the world but she has also won awards from all around the world. In 2006 she was decorated a Commandeur in the Ordre des Art et Lettres by the French Government. In 2009 she received the International Center of Photographers Lifetime Achievement Award, ASME's frist Creative Excellence Award, and the Centenary Medal of the Royal Photographic Society in London. In the American Society of Magazine Editors Leibovits held the top 2 spots for best published photo. The number one spot was a photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono taken for the Rolling Stone Magazine and the second photo was a picture of Demi Moore that was published in the Vanity Fair Magazines.

My Example of Annie Leibovits Technique
For me shooting photos like Annie Leibovits was challenging. I feel like her photos are more staged than anything. She uses bright backgrounds, fancy clothes, interesting props, and very unique but strange poses in her photos. To me looking at her photos makes me think there more fake and posed in certain ways on purpose. Most of her pictures look some what awkward and quirky giving a very interesting view to them. Since i don't have props or back grounds it was hard for me to get this look in my photos. In my opinion Annie Leibovits does a good job at the photos that she takes but its particularly difficult to copy it the way she takes her photos.
